Nota d'usoL'espressione acidità di stomaco si traduce con “heartburn”, non con “acidity”: Soffre spesso di acidità di stomaco, he often gets heartburn. Il termine scientifico è “pyrosis”, ma viene utilizzato esclusivamente in ambito medico. -
13 -herpes o cold sore?-
Nota d'usoNell'inglese di tutti i giorni, per indicare un herpes delle labbra, normalmente non si usa la parola “herpes”, ma l'espressione “cold sore”: Mi serve una crema per l'herpes, I need a cream for my cold sore. Il termine “herpes labialis” è utilizzato esclusivamente in ambito medico-scientifico. La parola “herpes”, usata da sola, indica di solito l'herpes genitale, pertanto è necessario fare attenzione quando si usa questo termine, che potrebbe essere considerato offensivo. -
14 -ernia al disco-
Nota d'usoNell'inglese di tutti i giorni, quando si parla di ernia al disco, normalmente non si usa la parola “hernia”, ma l'espressione “slipped disc”: Ho un'ernia al disco, I've got a slipped disc. In ambito medico-scientifico, il termine corretto è “herniated disc”. Quando il sostantivo “hernia” è utilizzato da solo indica di solito un'ernia inguinale. -
15 -torticollis o stiff neck?-
Nota d'usoNell'inglese di tutti i giorni per indicare il torcicollo si usano espressioni come “stiff neck”, “cricked neck” o “wry neck”: Oggi ho il torcicollo, I've got a stiff neck today. Il termine “torticollis” è utilizzato soltanto in ambito medico-scientifico.
